You can check the status of a registered Dubai court case through the official Dubai Courts website using the case inquiry service. You will generally need the case number, registration year and case category. Checking a case online helps you follow its progress, identify important updates and understand whether further action may be required.
Checking a case online helps you follow its progress, identify important updates and understand whether further action may be required. However, not every legal matter appears on the same government portal. A police complaint, prosecution file and registered court case may have different reference numbers.
This guide explains how to check your case status in Dubai, which official services to use and what to do if you cannot find your case online.

Steps By Steps To Check Dubai Court Case Status Online
Dubai Courts provides an online inquiry service that allows users to search for available information about registered cases.
Follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit the Official Dubai Courts Website
- Open the Dubai Courts website and navigate to its public inquiry services.
- You can also access the Case Inquiry by Categories page directly.
- Make sure you are using the official government website before entering any case-related information.

Step 2: Select the Case Category
- Choose the category that matches your registered case.
- Depending on the matter, the available categories may include claims, execution proceedings and other court-related files.
- Use the classification mentioned in your case documents rather than selecting a category based only on the general nature of the dispute.
Step 3: Enter Your Case Details

Complete the required fields, which may include:
- Case number
- Case year
- Case category or classification
Enter the information exactly as it appears on your official documents.
For example, if the case was registered in 2025, select 2025 as the case year, even if you are checking its status in 2026.
Step 4: Check the Available Status
- Submit the inquiry and review the information displayed.
- Depending on the case and the level of access available, the portal may show registration details, hearing information, procedural updates or other recorded information.
- If you see an upcoming hearing or an important update, check whether any documents or further action are required.
- Remember that a public inquiry may not display every document or detail in the case file.
How To Check A Police Case
- Open the Inquiries and Follow-up service.
- Enter the reference number or other information requested by the service.
- Complete any required identity verification.
- Review the available status or follow-up information.
This covers Dubai police matters only. If your complaint is about online threats, see our guide to blackmail in the UAE or speak to a cybercrime lawyer in Dubai. If you have been arrested or called in for questioning, read what to do if you are arrested in the UAE as a foreigner.
How To Check A Prosecution Case
Once the police refer a matter, the Public Prosecution takes over the file.
- Go to the Dubai Public Prosecution website
- Open “Case inquiry” under its services
- Choose how to search: by criminal case number or by police number
- Enter the number and the year
- Read the details shown and write down the next step or date
An Emirates ID alone will usually not find a prosecution file. You need the number the prosecution assigned, or the police number.
How To Check Execution Cases
When a judgment is being enforced, the matter moves to an execution file with its own number. Many cheque bounce cases end up here.
- Look at your judgment or notice for the execution case number
- Use the Execution category on the Dubai Courts inquiry service
- Check for attachment, payment or other enforcement steps
- Search the execution number separately from the original case number
An appeal file or an execution file is not listed under the same number as the first case. If enforcement has led to a frozen bank account, the case number you find here helps you act on it.
How To Check Traffic Violation Case Status
- Visit the official Dubai Police website or open the Dubai Police app.
- Select the Pay Traffic Fines and select the Fines Inquiry and Payment service.
- Search using the available details, such as your traffic file number, vehicle plate details, driving licence number or fine number.
- Review the available violation details, including the fine amount, date and payment status.
- If you need to pay the fine, follow the payment instructions provided by the official service.
You can also check eligible traffic fines through the RTA website.
Other Cases: Rental, Labour, Family, Difc, Abu Dhabi
Rental disputes: use the Dubai Land Department website or the Dubai REST app, with UAE PASS, to follow a Rental Dispute Settlement Centre file.
Labour complaints: check through the MOHRE website or app with your complaint or transaction number. If the dispute goes on to court, it then appears in the court portal. See also our guide on being fired from a job in Dubai.
Family and personal status cases: these are filed in the courts, so use the Dubai Courts service above. For background, see our guide to personal status law in the UAE.
DIFC cases: these sit on a separate system at difccourts.ae, and they won’t appear on the Dubai Courts portal.
Abu Dhabi: use the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s Estafser service, with a case number and year or your Unified ID.
Other emirates: start with the Ministry of Justice site or the local judicial department.
What The Status Usually Means
Wording differs between portals, but cases tend to move through these stages:
- Under investigation: the police or prosecution are still collecting evidence
- Referred to prosecution: the file has moved from the police to the prosecutors
- Referred to court: the case has been registered with the court and given a number
- Listed for hearing: a session date has been set
- Reserved for judgment: the court has finished hearing and will rule
- Judgment issued: a decision has been made, and appeal or execution may follow
If a label is unclear, ask the court or a legal adviser before acting on it.
If You Can’t Find Your Case
- Check the number, year and category for typing errors
- Make sure you are on the right portal for the stage of the case
- Recently registered matters may not appear immediately. If the case is urgent or a deadline is approaching, contact the relevant authority rather than waiting for the online record to update.
- Search the earlier stage, such as the police or prosecution file, in case it hasn’t reached court
- Search execution and appeal numbers separately
- Visit a Dubai Courts or prosecution service centre with your Emirates ID and any papers you hold
- Ask a lawyer to check if the number is missing or unclear
Case Status And Travel Bans
A case-status inquiry should not be treated as confirmation that you have no travel ban. Travel restrictions may require a separate inquiry with the relevant authority. See our guide to how to check a travel ban in the UAE for the steps.
When To Get Legal Advice
- The status is unclear or the wording confuses you
- You find a hearing date you didn’t know about
- A judgment has been issued against you
- There are signs of enforcement, such as an attachment or a frozen bank account
- A criminal complaint is involved and you may be at risk of a travel ban
- You can’t find your case at all
FAQ
The online case inquiry is generally available to the public without a lawyer. Fees, where they apply, usually relate to documents or other services, so check the portal for current details.
You may need to contact the relevant authority and complete the required identity verification to obtain the correct reference. Searching only by name is not a reliable way to identify every case.
Yes, if the matter has been registered with the relevant court and the information is available through its inquiry service. If it remains with the police or prosecution, use the appropriate authority’s channels.
